From the high-level reservoirs at Koppie Alleen, the water gravitates into the pipe system in the lower-lying areas, called the Welkom Ring Main. Potable water is then distributed to Odendaalsrus, Kutloanong, Welkom and Thabong. The Riebeeckstad reservoirs can only pump water if the high-level reservoirs are filled at 20% of their capacity.
