There have been reports made in previous issues of Vista for the last couple of months about the sewage leakages in different manholes across Matjhabeng. In areas of Virginia, Henenmann, and Meloding residents have been living in an ecological disaster as unadulterated sewage flows freely through their streets and houses, and into the Sand River.

More and more manholes are malfunctioning with sewage leaking from there.

In the space of a week, the road becomes worse with cracks getting bigger.Photo: Nonkululeko Ngubeni

Flamingo Park has become a shadow of its former clean self, as cows are seen grazing on grass drenched in raw sewage from the main hall in Mooitoekoms Street. The smell emitted from this spillage creeps into houses in Comorant and Drongo Street.

In many of the area’s streets there is either a big hole dug and left as is in the middle of the road, or cracks in the road with water flowing from them.

The tarred road cracking with water coming out can be hazardous since the more water keeps leaking, the weaker the road gets.
