Connie Chiume, a Welkom born South African actress, has turned 70.


Connie Chiume, a Welkom born South African actress, has turned 70.

Chiume, born on 5 June 1952, is popularly known for her appearance in Black Panther, Soul City, Black is King and Zone 14.

She has been in the industry since she made her debut in 1977, making her one of the most experienced actresses in the South African entertainment industry with more than 40 years of experience.

Chiume featured in Gomora, a South African soapie on Mzansi Magic, which ensured her local fame in the country.

In addition, she has featured in numerous dramas and serials.

Although she was born in Welkom, her father was from Malawi while her mother was a South African.

Her father, Wright Tadeyo, died in 1983, while her mother, MaNdlovu, passed away in March 2020.

She spent her childhood days in Welkom, where she attended the Thabong Primary School and Iketsetseng Senior Primary School, and matriculated at the Lebogang High School.

After matric she completed her teachers’ diploma at the Bensonvale College in the Eastern Cape.

Connie Chiume started her career as a teacher, but after a few years of teaching, she resigned and travelled to Israel.
