Sport and arts festival brings excitement to Bronville

The Bronville Sports and Arts Festival will take place on Sunday 1 May in the Bronville Stadium in Welkom.

The Bronville Sports and Arts Festival will take place on Sunday 1 May in the Bronville Stadium in Welkom.

This festival will host a Super Sundays Cup. Eight teams from the Lejweleputswa district will compete in this soccer tournament. They will be playing for prize money, a trophy and medals.

There will also be an outdoor beauty pageant for Mr and Miss Bronville United.

Two of Welkom’s national celebrities, Anver “Gube” Esterhuizen and DJ Taaibos, will host the event.

Esterhuizen is a professional soccer star who played in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) for Bloemfontein Celtic FC, and later moved to Free State Stars FC. He then went on to play for Moroka Swallows FC, which is based in Johannesburg.

Taaibos runs the BellaDiosa Talent and Sports Agency, with branches in Bloemfontein, Welkom and Johannesburg.

Both Esterhuizen and Taaibos are residents of the Vergenoeg suburb in Bronville, Welkom. Taaibos says they want to encourage the youth to participate in both the arts and sport.

“The festival will be held annually in Bronville, and more sporting codes and activities will be added in the coming years,” says Taaibos.

He says there will also be educational and awareness campaigns highlighting crime, teenage pregnancy, HIV-Aids and drug abuse.

Soccer scouts from PSL and National First Division (NFD) teams are also expected to be present.

The youth who are interested in taking part in the festival events must dial either 076-280-6696 or 073-060-1136.
