SPCA invites community to join its committee

The Welkom SPCA is in dire need of assistance and support of the Welkom community.

“We need community members to be co-opted onto the SPCA committee. These people must love animals and must be able to advance animal welfare and prevent animal cruelty. They must also not be involved with any other animal welfare organisations whose objectives differ from that of the SPCA,” says Dulcie Harris, SPCA chairman.

The SPCA is opposed to the indiscriminate breeding of animals.

“We would not be able to accept a person onto the SPCA committee who belonged to an organisation that permitted animals to be homed unsterilised,” says Harris.

Potential committee members will be asked to produce a police clearance certificate and also to sign a code of conduct.

The Welkom SPCA is looking for people to serve on its committee who have the necessary skills to assist the SPCA – for example people with financial expertise, those with a legal background or those with bookkeeping experience.

“The committee members’ main function is to raise much-needed funds, but to also ensure that the SPCA is running efficiently.

“We are looking for enthusiastic, capable and committed people to help put the Welkom SPCA on the map.”

People can also help by making monetary donations to the SPCA (18A Certificates are available), sponsor a kennel or cattery, and even sponsor a SPCA salary.

Donations of animal food – both cat and dog, and tins as well as dry feed – are always welcome.

“Become a member of the Welkom SPCA – you will always be welcome,” invites Harris.

People interested in joining the SPCA committee or who may have any ideas for fundraising must urgently contact Harris on 074-899-4164, Salome Geyser (public relations) on 063-773-0214, or Abby Schoeman (treasurer) on 082-304-4513.
