Several persons were arrested last week for the possession of drugs.
While members of the Welkom Anti-gang unit were executing visible policing duties in Muizen Street in the city’s CBD on Thursday, 4 April, they noticed suspicious movement near a food shop.
A male person was stopped and searched, and eight rock drugs weighing 0,46 g, and cash amounting to R400 were found in his possession. The 39-year-old foreign national was arrested.
On continuing with patrols in the CBD, a 41-year-old foreign national was arrested for possession of drugs after two sachets with crystal meth and one zip lock bag with the nyaope drug were found in his possession.
Furthermore, after applying for a search warrant to search a house in the Stickside Section of Monyakeng in Wesselsbron, and after the search warrant was available on 5 April, members arrived at a house of which the gates were found locked.
They managed to enter the yard and a woman, who is the owner, was found in the house. The search warrant was presented, and members started to search.
The following drugs were found in the house: 40 sachets of crystal meth, 36 full Mandrax tablets, 11 quarters Mandrax tablets and cash amounting to R1 000. A 47-year-old woman and a 23-year-old male person were arrested.
Also, police members proceeded to a house in Phahameng, Bultfontein, where more drugs were seized.
This includes 10 halves, 5 quarters and 1 full Mandrax tablets with cash amounting to R350.
Another two suspects, aged 33 and 20 years old, were arrested for possession of drugs.
The suspects appeared in the magistrate courts of Welkom, Wesselsbron and Bultfontein respectively on 9 April.
