SANBS is appealing to Welkom residents to donate blood urgently as stock levels are severely low.
SANBS reports that group O is below 2 days’ cover.
The two weeks leading to Easter weekend have had a significant impact on blood donations and collections, resulting in a shortage of blood supply.
The school holidays have also had a bigger than usual impact as most blood collections are done at schools and universities.
“Blood shortage is an ongoing concern especially the O blood type.
We are pleading with Matjhabeng residents to visit us at our Donor Centre, The Strip Building, Shop 38, Stateway. Our friendly staff will be able to assist you and answer any questions you may have.
“Your unit of blood saves three lives,” says Hloni Nkhabe, SANB Donor Relations Practitioner.
Donating blood is a safe process, and it only takes about 30 minutes. Those who are healthy and meet the eligibility criteria are urged to please visit the Welkom SANB Donor Centre at The Strip Building, Shop 38, Stateway.
SANBS has set up various blood donation drives across around Welkom to make it easier for people to donate. For more information on where to donate blood, visit the SANBS website or call: 057-352-2174.
