A 30-year-old man was arrested following two separate shooting incidents that resulted in the death of a 37-year-old man in Thabong, and a 40-year-old man being shot twice.
Members of the police were on Monday, 31 March, at about 03:30 summoned to a scene at Erfdeel Road near the Gugulethu informal settlement in Thabong.
Upon arrival, they found the body of a 37-year-old man covered in blood, with multiple gunshot wounds.
Apparently the victim had been loading his vehicle on a lowbed truck when the suspect came speeding towards the scene. The deceased indicated to the suspect that he should slow down.
It is alleged that an argument ensued when there was no space for the suspect to pass, whereafter he took out a firearm and fired multiple shots at the victim, fatally wounding him before fleeing the scene.
The victim was declared dead on the scene.
The suspect is reportedly also linked to another shooting incident that occurred earlier that night at a tavern in Thabong.
A 40-year-old African male suffered two gunshot wounds, while the second victim (39) suffered head injuries after being hit with a beer bottle.
The two victims were taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
The 30-year-old male suspect was subsequently arrested.
He is facing a charge of murder and two counts of attempted murder.
He is expected to appear in the Welkom Magistrates’ Court.
