The Welkom Police have launched a manhunt after the shocking discovery of a newborn baby in the Welkom suburb of Doorn.
The police are investigating concealment of birth and are requesting the residents of Doorn to assist them with their investigation.
The body of the African baby was found on 4 May inside a green Checkers bag, that was placed on top of black plastic bags, in front of a house in Short Street, Doorn. The discovery was in front of no. 6 Short Street and is in the vicinity of the primary school in that suburb.
“The mother of the child is still on the loose and residents of Doorn are requested to assist in tracing this mother who has committed this crime,” says Brig. Motantsi Makhele, spokesperson for the police in the Free State.
