A Matjhabeng service provider was caught red-handed while dumping raw sewage in a field in Eldoret, Odendaalsrus.
A concerned community member alerted Cllr. Igor Scheurkogel about the ongoing problem of sewage dumping in open fields and stormwater channels nearby where they live in Odendaalrsus.
“Unfortunately, it seems to have become a regular occurrence in Odendaalsrus due to the appointed contractor’s negligence and cost-cutting measures,” says Scheurkogel.
“This is completely unacceptable, and the matter has been reported to the municipal manager and acting director of Infrastructure.”
He says residents of Matjhabeng should not be exposed to such hazardous conditions simply because a contractor wants to save on disposal costs.
“To address this constitutional violation and ensure a safe and clean environment for all residents of Matjhabeng, I shall correspond with the district health inspectors and urge them to take swift action on this matter.
Tshediso Tlali, spokesperson for the Matjhabeng Municipality, did not respond to a media enquiry by the time of going to press.
