Patrick Mholo, concerned resident:
Local government, or the Hlasela offices at the Boitumelo Mall, are strategically situated to offer almost all essential services and must be expanded.
The presence of the departments of Social Development; Economic, Small Business, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs (Destea); Traffic; and Agriculture are commendable and appreciated, but services must be expanded to include the police for the certification of documents.
Residents cannot walk from the mall to the extreme ends of Thabong just to certify copies, and back to the mall to transact. We need Commissioners of Oaths locally.
Secondly, the Matjhabeng municipality’s finance section must also have a pay point to enhance their revenue collection. It must be made easier for rate payers to get statements and pay their accounts when they are here for shopping.
The Office of the Speaker must also assign an official to issue proof of address documents on behalf of every ward councillor in Thabong.
Thirdly, Home Affairs must also occupy the space to make it easier for people to apply and collect their identity cards. It costs a fortune for some residents to go to town just to apply and then return for collections.
Fourthly, the traffic department must expand their services to include applications for driver’s licences, and not just the renewal of motor licences. Or, at least, the collection thereof.
The health department must also consider occupying the space where people with chronic illnesses can collect medication. Collection points must be indicated; there is ample space for everyone.
Lastly, we need to get into the habit of supporting locally-owned businesses.
Protect our majestic buildings against vandalism and hijacking – that is our heritage after all.
