“The aim was to raise awareness on eye care. This year’s theme was ‘Love Your Eyes at Work’,” says Dr Reggie Mkatsane, head of Clinical Services at Bongani.

On Wednesday, eye clinics were held at Bongani. Various activities were conducted as part of awareness and in celebration of the day.

The motto of the day was “See the world through the visually impaired.”

On 12 September prosthetic eyes were fitted at the hospital, free of charge.

During this period an eye operations marathon (cataract removal) was also orchestrated. Eighty patients were targeted, with 50 operations eventually performed.

“Through these operations, the eyesight of 50 patients were restored,” says Mkatsane.
