Two armed men robbed a Welkom security officer of his Mossberg shotgun, a 9 mm CZ PO7 pistol, iPhone, iPad Mini 4 tablet, identity document, bank cards and his firearm license.
On 5 July at about 22:05 a 23-year-old security officer was on duty in Dagbreek, Welkom, when he was approached by two armed African men.
The men forced him to an nearby open field where they were joined by seven or eight men who then left for the Welkom electrical substation.
They left the victim with two of the suspects.
The victim then heard shots fired and all of the suspects fled on foot, including the two who were guarding him.
He screamed for help and was rescued by security personnel and four police officers. A case of armed robbery was registered for further investigation.
