The police are looking for a 71-year-old man who went missing in September 2021, and has not been seen since.
Madyke Mary-Ann Sempe went to the Thabong Police Station to report her cousin, Chopin Thabang Koote, as missing. She says she visited his residence at house number 2572 in Thabong, Welkom, on 21 May as she had not seen him for some time.
She was informed that her cousin was last seen on Saturday, 25 September 2021, at about 12:00. It is not known what he was wearing when he left and there is no photo available.
Apparently, Koote would sometimes disappear and come back home. This time, however, he never returned. A missing person case file was registered for further investigation.
Police investigations revealed that he is still receiving his South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) grant payments and money is withdrawn from his Finbond account. It is still investigated whether or not it is Koote withdrawing the money.
Several attempts were made to trace him, but all in vain. Should anyone have information about the whereabouts of the elderly Koote, they can contact WO Gerrie Nel of Thabong Serious and Violent Crimes on 082-806-8432 or Crime Stop number 08600-10111.
