The MEC for the Free State Department of Education, Makalo Mohale, helped Harmony Gold Mining Company Ltd hand over a science lab to a school in Thabong, Welkom.

In support of the strategic pillar of Responsible Stewardship, the mine had the honour of officially handing over the Leseding Technical School science lab renovation project to the Free State Department of Education in Thabong on 17 October.

Francois James van Rensburg, regional general manager (RGM), stated that they believe this lab will cultivate a sense of wonder and ignite a passion for scientific inquiry within each and every student who steps foot inside.

“This event marks a significant milestone in our journey towards fostering scientific curiosity and excellence among our students,” he added

The mine has been assisting numerous municipalities in Lejweleputswa through their Corporate Social Investment (CSI) portfolio in education, health, sports, arts and culture.

“In the past, science was just theory but the Free State government, through strategic partnerships, has ensured that we uplift the standard of learning and make it practical so that we offer our learners a better understanding of subject content and experience of the world of work,” said Mohale.
