With the start of a new year, the Department of Basic Education has published the 2023 school calendar, which kicked off on 11 January for learners in inland schools, while coastal schools started on 18 January.
The 2023 school year comprises 199 school days across the four terms, with 32 days set aside for school holidays and eight public holidays in-between.
Teachers and administrators started the year a bit earlier, starting up from 9 January (inland) and 16 January (coastal) in preparation for learners to return. The dates for the school terms are as follows:
Inland schools
- Term 1: 11 January to 24 March
- Term 2: 12 April to 23 June
- Term 3: 18 July to 29 September
- Term 4: 10 October to 13 December
