The Welkom Runners took part in the annual 2023 ANCO Ultra Marathon through the streets of Welkom on Saturday (11/03).
“The streets of some of Welkom’s suburbs including Jim Fouché Park, Dagbreek, and Flamingo Park were greeted by our runner’s footsteps,” says Nkhetheni Masupa of Welkom Runners.
The distances that were run were 5 km, 10 km, 16 km, 32 km, and 48 km. This marathon also served as a qualifier for the Comrades Marathon.
One of the club’s runners, Ompi Ngomba, came first in the 32 km race, and Matthews Musinanga came second in this same event.
Some of the other runners who took part and finished are Morena Motaung, Justice Shelile, Mabote Mokalodise, Diau Kabai, Tahleho Ntseki, Mokete Phale, Refiloe Musinanga, Nani Malakoane, Desmond Mokholela, and Ntate Mokoena.
