Riebies shine with medals

The Riebeeckstad High School finished fifth overall in the medal standings, with a small team receiving nine gold, four silver, and three bronze medals – totaling 16 medals – and setting four records at the SHS Willie Roux Invitational Athletics meet


The Riebeeckstad High School finished fifth overall in the medal standings, with a small team receiving nine gold, four silver, and three bronze medals – totaling 16 medals – and setting four records at the SHS Willie Roux Invitational Athletics meeting held in Sasolburg on Friday, 7 February.

A total of 18 athletes of this school participated.

The two athletes who performed the best on the day are Andries Morekind and Sylvia Lesige. Andries took first place in both the 1 500 m and 800 m, setting records in both events. Sylvia also came first in both the 1 500 m and 800 m, improving the records in each.

Four athletes placed in the top 50.

Orifilwe Tau finished first in the 1 500 m and third in the 800 m. Ofentse Selekoe secured second place in the 1 500 m.

In the 800 m, Mapule Mohale placed third, and Bania Lsulna performed exceptionally well, winning both the 100 m and 200 m.

Reaipela Mokatsane came second in the high jump, and Atlehang Erasmus finished first in both the 800 m and 1 500 m. Kabelo Thlone earned second place in the 1 500 m and was third in the 800 m.
