Seven riders of the BRS Equestrian Centre in Welkom took part in the annual Penbritte Thoroughbred Series at Penbritte, Johannesburg, on 24 February.

All of the Welkom riders did very well.

Jan-Thomas Bezuidenhout and his horse, Elegant Lady, won both the 80 cm Thoroughbred Series classes as well as claiming first and second place in the overall competition.

Shaylene Basson and her horse, High Society, obtained a first place in the 1 m Thoroughbred Series, and finished first overall in the graded class.

Ryan Martin and Kadush won a first and a third place in the 1,2 m Thoroughbred Series and an overall second place in the graded class.

With his other horse, Callaho Larina, Ryan won an overall first place in the 1,1 m graded competition.

Hanno van Jaarsveld and Storm Rider won two second places in the 80 cm Pony Rider graded classes.

Karlien van Jaarsveld, on Victorian Melody, was placed tenth in the 80 cm graded class.

Ivanka Erasmus and Little bit of Lace won first place in the 70 cm Pony Rider classes.

Ava Adendorff and Princess Maluti had clear rounds in the 60 cm Pony Rider class.

The Thoroughbred Series is for racehorses who have started a second career in show jumping. This was the first leg, the competition will run over 3 legs and the top 20 riders will then compete in the final. All the riders are from the BRS Equestrian Centre and are trained by Belinda Basson.
