The Goldfields TVET College received an award for top student placement on the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative (PYEI) Project for the year 2022.
The award was handed to Francis Mahlangu (principal) during the South African Public Colleges Organisation (Sapco) National General Council Elective Conference that took place at the Capital, Zimbali in KwaZulu-Natal.
President Cyril Ramaphosa, during his Sona speech in 2022 spoke about the importance of student placement. According to the president, colleges need to ensure that students are placed with employers to gain the much-needed on-the-job training to enable them to be employable.
Goldfields TVET College was among the top five TVET Colleges in the country to be awarded for the placement of students. Goldfields TVET College placed a total of 421 students for the 2022 academic year.
“This was achieved through the assistance of the job placement unit which worked tirelessly to ensure that they find employers to open their doors to place college students,” says Thokozani Ndhlovu, from TVET Marketing and Communication.
The award was handed over by the honorable minister of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation, Blade Nzimande, director general, Dr Nkosinathi Sishi together with the deputy director general of the TVET Branch, Sam Zungu.
“As a college, we are situated in an area that does not have a lot of industries, but we managed to beat the set target with the help of sister government departments and industry,” said Mahlangu.
