The residents of Welkom caught an illegal foreign national suspected of burglary and handed him to the police.
On 11 August members of the Welkom K9 unit were patrolling in Constantia Road, Welkom when they were stopped by residents.
They apparently caught a suspect involved in housebreakings that was committed between July 2023 and August 2023.
The suspect did not have legal documents to be in South Africa. He was arrested for illegal immigration and has a pending cases of burglary against him.
“Residents of Welkom are applauded for making a community arrest and handing over the suspect to the police to allow the wheels of justice to roll.
I am happy the Welkom K9 unit were able to respond to the plea of the community.” said the acting district commissioner of Lejweleputswa, brigadier Mzondi Mojafi.
