After municipal workers went on strike, waste piled up around the Thabong Primary School, posing health risks to learners and residents.
Ward 30 Neighborhood Watch stepped in to clean the area, showing true community spirit.
“We could not let our children walk through filth. A clean environment means safety and pride,” said Patrick Mholo, chairperson.

“Service delivery and accountability are everyone’s responsibility, not just the municipality’s.”
He says that reporting crime is not only their main concern, but clean environment as well.
“Besides, this initiative reinforces the idea that service delivery and accountability are community-wide responsibilities, not just governments,” said Mholo.
The team burnt, cleared litter and illegal dumping, restoring cleanliness and safety. They also called on the municipality and Samwu to resolve their disputes and resume waste collection. The committee thanked residents, Sono Mokoena and Manana Mutsi for their support and encouraged everyone to keep their surroundings clean and safe.

“Truly speaking, uncollected refuse attracts pests, causes bad odours, and spreads disease. Taking charge ensures that our environment remains hygienic and livable, especially near a school.
“As the community we must learn to stop blaming the municipality or councillors for littering and clean our own mess,” said Mholo.
