In Allanridge the 45-year-old relative of an eight-year-old child indecently assaulted her, and tried to rape her.
On 5 April the man, who is a relative of the child’s mother, sent her to the nearby shop. The mother agreed to the errand as the man is known to her.
When the mother later heard the child screaming, she rushed to investigate.
“The child told her mother that when she returned from the shop she handed the items she had bought to the man. She says he held her hand tightly and put his tongue inside her mouth. He then tried to pull her panty off. This was when she screamed for help,” said Capt. Stephen Thakeng, media liaison officer for the Lejweleputswa police.
The Allanridge police arrested the suspect for sexual assault.
