The Portfolio Committee on Co-operative Governance and the Office of the Premier will embark on an extensive process to consider the Free State Provincial and Local Houses of Traditional Leaders Amendment Bill.
“This amendment is to provide for the recognition and representation of Khoi-San communities and leaders in the Free State Provincial Houses of Traditional Leaders. It is also to provide for the establishment of Khoi-San councils and to provide for matters connected to these communities,” says Life Mokone, spokesperson and head of communication of the Free State Legislature.
Clause 1 introduces new definitions that were taken from the Traditional and Khoi-San Leadership Bill, 2015. Clause 2 enables Khoi-San leaders and communities to become members of the Provincial House of Traditional Leaders, and Clause 3 deals with the recognition of Khoi-San community and branches.
Five public hearings are scheduled throughout the Free State.
On 26 October they are in Welkom at 10:00, in the Ferdi Meyer Hall.
