This whizz kid is described by his teachers and peers as a one of a kind reading genius.
Bongani Ngwenya (7) is a Gr. 1 learner at the Mmantshebo Primary School in Thabong.
“He is of a rare breed who has developed a passion for reading. He is able to read most of the books that his peers find difficult to read, and his reading skills are so advanced that Gr. 8 books are child’s play for him,” says Letima Mogorosi, his teacher.
“His love for reading and telling stories has made him a beacon of our school, especially at this tender age.”
A story telling competition was held in February during the World Reading Aloud Day. The school identified Bongani to represent them during the coming story telling events planned by the department.
The school enrolled him for the Matjhabeng competitions held in Ventersburg, where he came out tops.
He proceeded to the district finals that were held on 26 August in Brandfort, where he also obtained first position and received a gold medal and a certificate.
“Mmantshebo Primary School and the Community are proud of a learner of Bongani’s calibre and wish to thank his parents, teachers and all those that support him. The future looks very bright for him and those that are willing to emulate him,” says Monkoe Mokati, principal of the school, .
“Myself, the SGB and the staff members are proud of his achievements and undertake to nurture this rare talent and make him shine brighter in the future,” says Mokati.
