The RCFA Bhubezi Fight Club from Welkom competed at the annual Best of The Best Tournament held in Vereeniging on 13 July.

The three Welkom fighters excelled in their performances.

Sensei Joe Gladstone Ralejoe, RCFA official, made his debut as a centre referee at the tournament and continued to perform his judging duties with other fights. One of the fighters Brandon Kelly had the opportunity to fight in the main fight of the tournament for the Junior South Africa Championship Title in a millenium amateur bout, and obtained gold.

Brandon impressed by going the distance in the 8 x 1 bout and won by unanimous decision.

Brandon says his title was not gained from his work alone, but from team work.

“It was the work of Sensei Joe and all of my team mates, from all the extra hard trainning to the pain we gained. Thank you for helping me to achieve one of my goals. So congratulations team we brought it home,” says Brandon. A second student, Gofaone Sebati obtained gold for Semi Contact High Kick, and silver for Semi Contact High Kick.

The third young man, Siyabonga Gina obtained gold for Millennium.

The trio will represent the club at the second annual Continental Championships in Namibia later this year.

“We are incredibly proud of our fighters and their achievements. We also thank Shaun Kelly our Assistant Coach for guiding the team,” says Ralejoe.
