Lejweleputswa was a crime hotspot on Friday (24/02) when three serious incidents took place within the precinct.
An eight-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a neighbour in Bronville. He forced her into a shack and strangled her during the brutal attack.
The incident was reported to the Bronville police, says Capt. Stephen Thakeng, media liaison officer for the Lejweleputswa police. A 25-year-old suspect was arrested for rape.
In an earlier incident on Friday, an automated teller machine (ATM) in Sunriseview, Thabong, was blown open by explosive devices.
When Thabong police responded, two shots were fired in their direction but no injuries were sustained, says Thakeng.
“Four men were seen running away in different directions and disappeared in the dark. Members of the Explosive Section were summoned to the scene and found remnants of a shock tube starter, brown box tape with a small quantity of explosives, swabs and control samples. The money found at the scene was dye stained,” says Thakeng.
Anyone with information that will aid the investigation, must contact the police on 082-301-2809 or the Crime Stop number 08600-10111.
