Being a pastor, you often have to sit with people who are struggling in life. People kind of expect pastors to be at the top of their game all the time.
And then in October 2021 both my wife and I were admitted to hospital due to Covid-19.
I was hospitalised for nine days, and during this time I had one of the most amazing experiences since being in Welkom.
The kindness, compassion and dedication of the health workers was, to say the least, encouraging and brought me hope. (Isaiah 6:8)
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I, send me!”
This verse expresses what we are all being asked by God. We are being asked: will we go and bring hope to people, will we go and be kind and compassionate to those who are struggling?
Isaiah’s response was “Here am I. Send me”.
We are called to be people of change and to bring hope and encouragement to others. I saw those people when I was lying in my hospital bed.
So, thank you to all the doctors and health-care workers at Mediclinic. You are an example for what we as South Africans are called to be.
So how about the rest of us.
People of Matjhabeng, let us put our hands up and be people of change and hope, let us encourage and inspire our nation as we get up and say: “Here am I. Send me.”
