Welkom Post Office patrons have had to navigate these two deep and dangerous holes, as well as an adjacent disintegrating road surface due to burst pipes since at least December 2022. Queues of people waiting to get their South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) grants snake in-between these obstacles every week, and post office patrons are not spared these inconveniences as they too join the long queues. The burst pipes causing flooding of the intersection were partially fixed on 4 April, but the damaged road surface is still not tarred and the two enormous holes remain unmarked.
