“What went wrong in our country?”

Women and children are killed daily in South Africa by people who are supposed to protect them, and the question is:

What went wrong in our country?

On 9 July the residents of Ward 13 in Thabong took part in a march organised by the Matjhabeng Men’s Forum to protest gender-based violence (GBV). Their message was: “Enough with the killing of women and children”. Pastors from Thabong offered prayers of potection during the march and marchers handed out whistles to the women they encountered. “They must use the whistles when they are threatened by GBV,” says Molefi Mosala, one of the organisers. The march was organised by himself and Reabetswe Matobako. “The main purpose is to open a 24/7 call centre in the district where people can report their problems. The centre will also provide support groups, anger management and counselling sessions to those in need,” says Mosala.
