Pastor Khaya Mqeke, Welkom:

As a minister of the gospel and also one who is in touch with the cry of the people, I believe that the failure to take good decisions now will result in Welkom becoming a ghost and forgotten town in the years to come.

I am writing to propose an exciting opportunity for the Liberty Mall to be converted into an international conference centre, or rather a multi-purpose centre in order to boost the economy of this town.

Given its unique historical background and reputation, I believe it has significant potential to become an exceptional conference center that would attract attendees with its ambiance and history.

The advantageous part is the shopping complex’s underground parking area.

This concept involves preserving the charm and storied elements of the property, particularly the aspects that contribute to its unique reputation.

The building can be designed as a venue that would not only serve as a functional space for conferences and events, but also embrace the mysterious allure of the property’s history, allowing it to become a significant draw for visitors.

These are some of the key benefits to this concept. A conference center with a historical or haunted theme would attract both local and international visitors who are intrigued by such unique venues.

This transformation could stimulate the local economy through job creation, increased patronage of nearby businesses, and heightened visibility for the area.

By preserving the historical nature of the property, we would ensure that future generations can experience and appreciate its heritage.

Let our leaders be judged on the impact or rather contributions they have done towards development; not on how big their stomach is. If we fail now, history will judge us harshly.

May God bless those who will care to consider this proposal. I remain a servant of the people.
