The “Sports Against Crime” campaign was held on Youth Day, 16 June, at the Meloding Calabria sportsground.
The event was organised by Sinqobile Equestrian Security in collaboration with Transnet, members of the Meloding police, ward councillors, and community policing forum (CPF).
Four youth teams, representing two high school soccer teams and two primary school netball teams, took part.
The high school teams were pitted against each other, and the two primary school teams followed suit. All the teams were sponsored, with the addition of sport kits, medals and trophies awarded to the winning teams.
During the event, the destruction of infrastructure was discouraged and the youths were told that the railway lines infrastructure must be protected at all times.
When witnessing the destruction of property, residents must report the account to Crime Stop at 08600-10111 or the MySAPS App, anonymously. The police emphasised that crime does not pay.
