The district commissioner of Lejweleputswa congratulates the election of junior district commissioner, Naledi Njikelana (14), a Gr. 9 learner of the Lephola Secondary School in Thabong.
The SAPS has implemented an initiative of junior management, which is where school learners are gathered and brought within the police environment to prepare them to be future leaders.
In February, the Department of Education, police management, youth desk, and school learners took part in a session to elect the junior district commissioner. Every police station within the Lejweleputswa district was represented.
The district commissioner of Lejweleputswa, Maj. Gen. Tholie Afonso, sided by Brig. Mzondi Mojafi, deputy district commissioner, and Capt. Dlamini, district community policing officer (CPO).
Afonso, in her address, motivated the school learners with her life story.
She matriculated at the Bahale Secondary School in Phomolong, Hennenman, in 1990 and enlisted the same year where she did her police training. She was deployed at the Hennenman Police Station as a constable. In 1993, she started her career in the detective component until her advancement to the rank of Maj. Gen. and promotion as the station commander at the Welkom Police Station in 2010.
A year later, she was called as the provincial head detective and appointed as the deputy provincial commissioner in crime detection.
She is a PHD degree candidate and a certified fraud examiner (CFE).
Afonso further encouraged the learners who would amongst them be appointed as the junior district commissioner, to be determined to learn more. She wished them well in the new venture, and encouraged them to learn more about policing and leadership in its entirety.
A total of 17 junior station commanders took part in this project of appointing and welcoming Naledi as the junior district commissioner.
