The Welkom SAPS took to the streets of the central business district (CBD) to launch an awareness campaign focussing on human trafficking, rape, cyber crime, domestic violence, gender-based violence and drug abuse.

The campaign was conducted on Thursday (20/04) from 16:00 to 20:00.

Stakeholders who were part of this thrust were the Matjhabeng Municipality, the Department of Correctional Services, Child Line and various non-profit organisations.

“The focus was mainly in Mooi Street, as this is a hotspot for sundry criminal acts, and the target group was the youth,” says Capt. Stephen Thakeng, media liaison officer for the Leweleputswa SAPS.

Crime prevention pamphlets were distributed to inform the youth on how to prevent and report criminal acts taking place in the Welkom CBD.

“Mission accomplished,” were the words of Capt. Kenalemang Mphatsoe, who also thanked all stakeholders who took part.
