A manhunt was launched after an ATM was bombed in Odendaalsrus in the early hours of the morning on Thursday.

Members of Odendaalsrus Visible Policing were on vehicle patrol in Madika Street, Kutloanong, on 10 August at about 03:09 when they heard an explosion. They proceeded in the direction from where the sound had come, and realised the exposion must have happened at the Block 5 Taxi Rank.

As the two police members drove towards the taxi rank in Du Plessis Street, next to the Telkom Tower building, another explosion was heard. They drove closer to the taxi rank, where there was a group of people. When they parked the vehicle, a suspect fired a shot in their direction.

They got out of the police vehicle, and about 15 men fled in different directions. They were chased, but disappeared in the dark.

It was found that the ATM at a supermarket next to the taxi rank had been bombed. Nobody sustained any injuries.

A case of ATM bombing, attempted murder and attack on police was registered for further investigation.

Anyone with information that could lead to the arrests of these armed robbery suspects can contact Det. Sgt Tauru Majoe of the provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Unit on 071-094-0570 or dial the Crime Stop number, 08600-10111.
