The police still seek information concerning two unsolved murders that happened in Welkom in 2023.
The body of a man was found in the Welkom industrial area in 2023. He had sustained several stab wounds to his chest.
The deceased was later identified as Tankiso Petrus Nhlapo from Odendaalsrus. He was last seen by his family on Saturday, 3 June 2023, after closing the shop in Odendaalsrus with his mother.
His body was discovered on 6 June 2023 at about 07:40 in the field in front of number 48 on 11th Street in the industrial area of Welkom.
A case of murder was registered for further investigation.

Another murder still being investigated is that of the well known recycler known as “Malume” who was found dead in Welkom on Saturday, 23 December 2023, at 07:40.
The deceased, Petrus Motsapi, was born 22 March 1952, and he originated from Botshabelo, Bloemfontein.
Malume was known in the streets of Welkom where he used to collect empty plastic and tins for recycling.
The deceased was found next to house number 63 Hamlet street in Lakeview Welkom.
He was wearing a navy blue jacket, blue trouser and black shoes. The deceased had a wound on the back part of his head and it was clear he was hit with an unknown object and he bled profusely.
According to his family, he left home in 2011.
