On 16 September at about 08:10 the body of an unknown African male was found lying on the railway line between Flamingo Park and Rheeder Park in Welkom.
He had sustained multiple wounds.
“Apparently the mine locomotive ran over the body that had already been lying on the tracks.
“A case of inquest has been registered for further investigation,” says Capt. Stephen Thakeng, media liaison officer for the Lejweleputswa police.
Residents in the area reported hearing multiple gunshots in the vicinity, earlier that morning.
Thakeng says these allegations will be investigated as part of the inquest inquiry.
