Police in Thabong have identified a spate of Eskom cable theft in the township.
“We suspect the criminals are approaching the homes during load shedding at night, and then they steal the Eskom electrical cables,” says Capt. Stephen Thakeng, media liaison officer for the Lejweleputswa police.
Thakeng says Thubelisha is a hotspot, but that the trend is spreading throughout Thabong.
“The police have not yet arrested any suspects, and we are appealing to residents to be vigilant, especially during load shedding. Residents must organise themselves in large groups and patrol the hotspot areas during load shedding,” says Thakeng.
Residents must report the criminals to the Crime Stop number 08600-10111.
“Residents can remain anonymous. Should anyone have information leading to the arrests of the suspects who are stealing Eskom electrical cables, they must contact Det. WO Mohapi Mokhoke of the Thabong Detective Services on 082-301-2809.
