While trying to arrest a suspect, a police officer’s firearm was violently taken from him during a skirmish with members of the public.

The policeman, was trying to serve a warrant of arrest when his Z88-pistol and ammunition was taken from him.

“We expect residents to assist the police in ensuring that law and order is maintained in Thabong,” says Capt. Stephan Thakeng, media liaison officer for the Lejhweleputswa SAPS.

On 18 June the two police officers were attending a complaint in Mosunkutu Street in Mshenguville Thabong. They approached an identified house to execute the warrant of arrest. The suspect was aggressive and resisted arrest.

Then instead of helping the two officers, a crowd turned on them and in the process the firearm of the officer of Thabong was robbed. The District Commissioner of Lejweleputswa, Maj. Gen. Lerato Molale appeals to residents of Thabong to assist the station commander of Thabong, Brig. Envor Solomon and his team in their endeavor to reduce crime, and not to attack policemen who are performing their duties.
