Last week the Free State police arrested 1 106 suspects for crimes ranging from murder to attempted murder, rape, possession of illegal firearms and various drug related crimes.
During the weekly multi-disciplinary operation Shanela, the Free State police were merciless in their pursuit of a crime free province.
They arrested 409 suspects in the past seven days for serious crimes including murder, rape, the pointing of a firearm, trespassing, contravention of a protection order and malicious damage to property.
While the detectives were busy with the weekly operation, Multi-disciplinary-led crime prevention duties continued. Different government departments were included.
Three suspects were arrested and three illegal firearms were confiscated in Harrismith and Phuthaditjhaba.
Five suspects were arrested for murder, four for attempted murder, 11 for rape and two for sexual offences.
They also arrested 21 suspects for possession of dangerous weapons, 40 for drug-related crimes and 21 for malicious damage to property.
Illicit mining activities were attended to and 42 suspects were arrested and equipment used for illegal mining was confiscated.
The police also arrested 59 suspects after they could not provide police and immigration officers with proper papers. They also arrested 28 drivers after they were found to be driving while under the influence.
“The police’s continuous efforts in stopping criminals in their tracks are slowly receiving much support as our broader communities have become a great assistance as these criminals are living within our communities,” says Sgt. Mahlomola Kareli, Free State SAPS communication officer.
