Three suspects were arrested in Virginia for the possession of an ulicensed firearm and ammunition.
Recently the Welkom Tactical Response Team (TRT) received information from Crime Intelligence about three armed men driving in a maroon Mazda 2 with a GP registration number.
The vehicle was stopped and searched. The police found a firearm with the serial number filed off. There were 11 rounds of live ammunition in the magazine. The police also found five loose rounds of 9 mm live ammunition hidden in the vehicle.
The three suspects are foreign nationals aged 32, 39 and 40-years-old, they were arrested for Possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, and the vehicle was also seized.
“We applaud the residents of Virginia for trusting SAPS members with sensitive information which led to the arrests. The swift reaction of Crime Intelligence and the Welkom TRT is also commendable,” said Brig. Mzondi Mojafi, acting district commissioner of Lejweleputswa.
