Jan Jacobs and his Handjievol team were invited to meet with the executive mayor of Matjhabeng, Thanduxolo Khalipha, concerning the group’s endeavours to fix potholes in Odendaalsrus, along the Phakisa Road, and in Wekom itself.
Recently, Jacobs attracted a lot of attention when he was photographed “swimming” in the massive pothole at 1 Tempest Road that was filled with water after the recent rains. The hole created a very dangerous situation in a busy thoroughfare.
It was this photograph that initiated the meeting with the mayor.
“It was a very positive meeting,” says Jacobs, team leader.
“The mayor indicated that his team would like to work in conjunction with us, and assist in any way they can. No promises or expectations were created, in order to prevent disappointment.
“The meeting took place in good spirits, and I do believe it is a move in a positive direction for our community.”
Jacobs says he will persist until the hole at 1 Tempest is filled and the group can tar the road there.
