Muzi Khumalo, Welkom:
There are big questions about the Matjhabeng Industrial Park tender. Were there any adverts calling for service providers on this project? How were they appointed?
It is even worse to hear that the spokesperson of the Matjhabeng Local Municipality has been appointed as a board member. How did it come to be that the spokesperson became the Lejweleputswa Development Agency (LDA) board member? Can the community be enlightened on the process?
The involvement of the Lejweleputswa District Municipality, LDA, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Local Economic Development (LED) plan of Matjhabeng, and offices of executive mayors of both municipalities is a subject for noting. We know this project was started by former executive mayor Nkosinjani Speelman, and the buildings are testimony of that fact. This appointment was done by the current administration.
People are suffering, and the high employment rate is affecting service delivery.
Is there any possibility that these service providers are closely linked to those in higher offices in both district and local municipalities, either by birth, marriage, family members, association, etc.?
The community deserves to know.
It seems that the Lejweleputswa District Municipality is not in charge. The walls of Jericho is falling down, and the district is nowhere to be found.
The district has never bothered to care anyway.
How do we expect them to care, especially now that Matjhabeng is under section 139? Where do we go from here. The Matjhabeng Industrial Park project is spearhead by officials, not by councilors.
There is no council resolution regarding this project in both Lejweleputswa District and Matjhabeng local municipality, and unavailability of LDA board minutes. Councilors have been left in limbo. An official responsible to allocate empty offices has been in China since 2024.
Is this what we voted for, and how we will be voting?
