A joint rural safety community outreach programme assisted farm workers and learners in obtaining legal South African documents.

Sgt Motshidisi Mochudi and WO Jankie Moreki, members of the Welkom Rural Safety co-ordinators, identified a need for birth certificates and identity documents in the farming schools and communities.

On 25 August a decision was taken by members of the Welkom police, the Department of Home Affairs, and the Department of Education to reach out to the Vierfontein and Vierhoek farm schools.

Residents and school learners were registered so that they can be legitimate citizens of South Africa.

The initiative was a success and farm owners raced to this event.

The school’s principal and management team, together with representatives of Home Affairs and its immigration section assisted in this endeavour..
