Four men were arrested for contravention for contravention of the immigration act during an operation to combat legal mining in Welkom.
Operation Vala Umgodi was was held on 16 May.
The police conducted 18 stop and searches around Welkom where they searched 30 people.
During the operation they visited two shafts, and St.Helena, Bambanani, Tshepong mines.
Two premises searched were in Thabong, one informal settlement was visited, three shopping malls were patrolled and three automatic tellers and three power stations were also monitored.
On the same day members of Operation Vala Umgodi conducted a stop and search at Odendaalsrus and Welkom. Three suspects were arrested for contravention of the immigration act.
During the operation held in Welkom police conducted 11 vehicle check points, 17 stop and searches, 21 vehicle searched, 4 bush patrols, 19 mines visited, 5 spaza shops visited.
