Police members of Operation Vala uMgodi arrested a 34-year-old woman for dealing in drugs, and seized drugs with an estimated street value of R161 000 during a raid in Welkom.

The woman was apprehended on Sunday, 30 March, in Mooi Street in Welkom’s Central Business District (CBD) when members of the police’s drug operation’s combat and proactive teams conducted a search at a Cash for Gold and Jewelleries Store.

They seized 450g of nyaope, 666g of crystal meth, 449g of Mandrax, 151g of crushed methcathinone (cat), 163g of cat, 96g of rock, 498g of dagga, and two small scales used to weigh the drugs.

A case file of drug dealing has been opened at the Welkom Police Station.

“The raid continued at other identified drug spots, and a 25-year-old man was arrested for dealing in drugs in the New Stands Informal Settlement in Thabong, outside Welkom,” said Lt. Col Thabo Covane, spokesperson for the police in the Free State.

Here, members of the police found 171 full Mandrax tablets, three halves and quarters of Mandrax tablets, and a ziplock bag containing crushed Mandrax tablets, and nine small and two medium-sized ziplock bags containing crystal meth.

The police seized all of the drugs.

The total weight of the Mandrax seized comes down to 160,01g, while the crystal meth weighed 9,25g.

A case of dealing in drugs has been opened at the Thabong Police Station.

A 25-year-old male was arrested for dealing in drugs in New Stands Informal Settlement in Thabong outside Welkom. During the arrest they found and seized 171 full Mandrax tablets, amongst other drugs.
