One foreign national was kidnapped and another shot in the leg when three armed robbers invaded their business, SS Supermarket in Odendaal Street, Odendaalsrus.
On Wednesday (29/06) three armed assailants entered the business premises and instructed the three victims, Tahwidul Islam (23), Salla Udin MD (38) and Gewel Mossarf Hussain (34), as well as two customers, to lie on the floor. They robbed the business and then tried to force the victims into a stolen vehicle that was parked outside.
One of the victims managed to stay in the shop, while the other one was shot in the leg when he refused to get into the vehicle. About eight shots were fired.
The kidnappers managed to force the 23-year-old man into the vehicle and fled the scene.
The wounded victim (38) was treated on the scene and then taken to hospital. The customers were unharmed and fled the scene.
A hostage negotiator communicated with the kidnappers. They initially demanded R100 000 on threat of killing the victim.
He was released on Thursday afternoon after a R25 000 ransom was paid over.
