For ten years the desperate community of Jerusalem Park in Thabong have been fighting to get burst pipes fixed, and damaged road structure repaired.
On 5 December a group of residents handed over a memorandum demanding attention be given to their desperate plight.
“The councillor of ward 12 has made countless promises in his ten years of tenure, all of which he reneged on,” says Sylvester Phate, one of the residents.
Phate says the councillor promised the community in May this year that he would repair the excessive daily flow of water which is damaging and eroding the entrance road surfaces.
“He said he would provide gravel to close up the potholes, while he was waiting for the September budget to be released to fix all water and road problems.
“He also told us that an alternative road will be opened next to the play ground towards the high school, for us to use. “These promises were never met, and he never provided an explanation to us as to why not.”
Phate says the community is furious with his silence and inability to revert back to them.
Due to this frustration and the inability of council to assist, the residents have approached private business to assist them with what is in places life threatening situations.
“We demand an answer from the councillor by Wednesday, 23 December. If there is no response by this date we will take matters into our own hands”.
