The third annual “On-Trac-Tor” charity tractor ride in aid of paediatric care in Africa started in Nelspruit and will make a stop in Welkom on 27 and 28 July.

Dr Andre Hattingh, of Pediatric Care Africa, takes on this incredible journey to raise funds for children in need of life-saving operations. Hattingh will ride through six provinces, covering no less than 3 500 km on a tractor with a trailer as part of this charity fundraising campaign.

This extraordinary tractor ride is going to happen without a support vehicle, nor any other person riding with as part of any technical support. This record attempt will be lodged with Record Setters in America for evaluation and verification.

If accepted, they will officiate the record attempt and issue an official world record certificate.

“Everybody is invited to join Hattingh en-route into Welkom. Come to Rhino’s Rest at 16:30 on Saturday, 27 July, and form a convoy as he travels to the Goldfields Casino Conference Centre” says Dulcie Harris, who is organising the Welkom visit.

Join Hattingh at the Casino Conference Centre at 18:00, where he will give a presentation about this initiative, and how people can help him help children in need.

“Also, join us at Ocean Basket on Saturday, 27 July, to make a donation, between 10:00 -13:00,” says Harris.

Since 2017, the organisation was able to give free medical care to 7 849 persons and 1 824 children have seen a private medical practitioner or specialist. Additionally, 148 children received free surgeries, 511 000 kg of food parcels was distributed, and 7 243 tins of baby formula and 9 098 packets of baby porridge were delivered to the needy.

Harris said the purpose of this ride is to draw international attention to the extremely high number of farm murders and attacks in South Africa, to collect funds for children who require bigger and more complex surgeries, and to create awareness on the shocking levels of violence affecting children’s lives.
