The community of Thabong is shocked by the gruesome murder of an educator at the Letsete Secondary School, who was stabbed to death at his house in Thabong.

On Saturday, 2 December, Sipho Mothekhe (32) was last seen leaving the LDK tavern in Thabong at about 02:00 after a night out with friends. He told them that he might be going to the Limpopo tavern, also in Thabong.

The next morning Mothekhe’s girlfriend tried to get hold of him, but could not reach him. She went to his residence in the afternoon and saw that his car was still not in his yard.

She then discovered Mothekhe’s body in the house and called for help from neighbours. When the police arrived, they found the kitchen and front burglar doors had been forced open, with the door also broken.

The house was ransacked and Mothekhe was found with cuts on his left arm and body, a broken right wrist, and stab wounds to his chest, neck and the top of his head. A garden spade was found next to his body. His Volkswagen Polo, cellphone, and Hisense HD television were missing.

The Polo was later found abandoned in Virginia.

Messages of condolences and heartbreak are pouring in on Facebook from his students, colleagues, and friends.

“A great teacher is irreplaceable. You made learning fun and you helped me to grow into the student that I am now. I looked forward to going to school everyday because of your positive attitude and your passion of teaching us new things everyday.

“Your lesson plans will be unforgettable and I have learned so much from you even when days seemed too long and the pressure of school seemed overwhelming, you were there for Grade 12A to make things better.

“You cared about your learners and made sure that we had knowledge we needed to succeed. I am so lucky that I had you as a teacher and I will never forget what you taught me,” wrote one of his learners on Facebook.
